Tonya Judson, DNP, RN, NI-BC, CNE is an Assistant Professor at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she teaches nursing informatics across both undergraduate and graduate programs. With over 25 years of diverse nursing experience—spanning ICU, ED, quality improvement, utilization review, and remote patient monitoring—she transitioned to academia in 2017.
Tonya is deeply committed to enhancing nursing students' informatics competencies, particularly in the use of electronic health records (EHR). She has played a key role in the implementation and integration of an academic EHR system within the School of Nursing, ensuring that students are equipped with real-world skills. Additionally, Tonya collaborates closely with clinical partners to ensure that all undergraduate nursing students receive EHR access and essential computer training before beginning their clinical rotations, empowering them to excel in patient care and decision-making in practice.
