Dr. Freeman will discuss interoperability and usability through the lens of informatics-led work at the facility, discipline-specific, and interdisciplinary levels. This will be a discussion of how governance, culture, and implementation choices may ease the health IT burden on the clinical care team.

Purpose
The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to consider local activities that can greatly enhance interoperability and usability of health IT, while decreasing the burden on bedside workers.
Learning Outcomes
- Describe usability, interoperability, and the impact of nonstandard documentation and processes on the achievement of those goals for health IT.
- Differentiate regulatory-based objectives and responsibilities from discipline- and facility- specific tasks to optimize the use of health IT.
- Critically reflect on the current state of informatics-led initiatives that impact the effectiveness of health IT.
