Clinical informatics is a specialized field requiring clinical experience and a well-rounded understanding of informatics principles. There is an increased need for qualified professionals in the field. A synopsis of the financial incentive, learning experiences, and work effort that went into the initiation and development of a clinical informatics trainee program is presented. The program intended to supply a larger core team with employees that are formally trained and accustomed to the workflows of the organization.
