Patricia Hoppes, MSN, RN, is an accomplished nurse executive and healthcare leader with over 19 years of progressive clinical, operational, and executive experience in acute care, perioperative services, and quality leadership. She currently serves as Interim Chief Quality Officer at University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC), where she is the senior executive accountable for quality, patient safety, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance across the health system. In her role as Interim CQO, Ms. Hoppes leads enterprise‑wide initiatives to ensure continuous compliance with CMS, The Joint Commission, and state and federal regulatory requirements, while advancing high‑reliability, outcomes‑driven care aligned with UMC’s mission “To Heal, To Serve, and To Educate.” Her portfolio includes oversight of hospital‑acquired condition reduction, including PSIs, HAIs, readmissions, and mortality review; executive leadership of sentinel event investigations and corrective action plans; and governance of publicly reported quality measures, internal dashboards, and board‑level reporting. She works closely with physician leadership, Infection Prevention, CDI, HIM, Nursing Informatics, and Medical Staff to ensure quality determinations are timely, defensible, and clinically sound in a high‑volume, high‑acuity Level I Trauma and teaching hospital environment. Prior to assuming the CQO role, Ms. Hoppes served as Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at UMC, where she partnered with executive leadership to advance nursing strategy, operational excellence, and workforce innovation. In this capacity, she led large, complex service lines across inpatient and outpatient settings; implemented virtual nursing, virtual observation, and AI‑enabled ambient care technologies to reduce documentation burden and support quality care; and directed hospital‑wide quality initiatives in fall prevention, pressure injury reduction, and infection control. Her leadership contributed to Nurse Excellence recognition and progress toward Magnet® designation, while overseeing capital budgets exceeding $1.4 million. Ms. Hoppes’ leadership experience also includes senior administrative roles overseeing critical care services, medical‑surgical services, and perioperative services in both Level I and Level II trauma centers. She has led organizations through successful Joint Commission surveys, pandemic response and surge planning, system‑wide infection prevention initiatives, and large‑scale clinical and operational transformations. Her background spans bedside practice in labor and delivery, cardiovascular intensive care, perioperative nursing, and vascular access, providing a strong clinical foundation for executive decision making. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from Capella University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from The University of Texas at El Paso. Ms. Hoppes is an active member of the American Nurses Association, AONL, and TONL, and holds specialized training in surgical services management, vascular access, and leadership development. She is bilingual in English and Spanish.
