LaVerne Perlie is a Nurse Consultant at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in the Office of Certification and Testing. Currently she is on a developmental assignment at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the Continuous Improvement and Strategic Planning Office. LaVerne is the Safety and Enhanced Design Criterion technical lead at ONC, where she coordinates with policy planning and execution for Health IT Certification. LaVerne led the development of the Usability Change Package which is accessible on the ONC Health IT Playbook. Prior to this she worked for 5 years in the Office of Clinical Quality and Safety, where she led, coordinated, and implemented federal health IT policy, and performed contract management for Health IT Usability, Health IT Adoption, Patient Safety, Care Coordination, and Pediatric Electronic Clinical Quality Measures specification. Prior to joining ONC, LaVerne worked at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services, leading Quality Improvement Organization contracts and executing interagency agreements totaling 33 million dollars. She served as project officer for the validation of improper payments under Medicare's Division of Recovery Audit Operations. LaVerne's non-federal nursing experiences include acute care, internal medicine, maternal child health, utilization review, case management, and quality improvement. LaVerne has been instrumental in helping establish the ONC/ANIA quarterly education webinar series, providing education by ONC nurses and nurse fellows to ANIA members and other nurse informaticists.
