Danny van Leeuwen MPH, RN, OPA

Danny van Leeuwen, known as Health Hats, serves people who help people by leveraging his privilege and experience as a person with disabilities, nurse, care partner, informaticist, and quality management leader to open seats at the table of healthcare governance, design, operations, and research for under-represented and under-served communities. He is committed to health equity, learning, and sharing what works for best health. Danny is especially interested in building capacity so the healthcare system can successfully collaborate with patients and communities to identify and solve intractable problems. Danny worked clinically for 20 years in home, pediatric, emergency, and intensive care. Danny led two EMR implementations and served in quality management leadership in rural, urban, children’s, behavioral health, and managed care systems including work as a consultant. Danny advocates as a podcaster, vlogger, and technical and subject matter expert focusing on pain management, measure and app development, clinical decision support, and artificial intelligence. Danny is a member of the Patient-Centered Research Institute (PCORI) board of governors.
