Description

Mentoring is described as an on-going collaborative relationship between a senior nurse and a newer staff member (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2013). Mentors, according to Villanueva (2015), provide peer support and help with the transition into a new role. The role of the informatics nurse is essential to the design, implementation, and support of systems. A mentoring program that includes informatics competencies helps prepare nurses new to informatics in the skills required to successfully perform these functions.
