A Day in the Life of a Nurse Informaticist: Understanding and Influencing Policy

Description

Policy affects us all either directly or indirectly. As the largest medical professional in the country, Brokaw (2016) describes nurses as having the potential to influence policy at all levels – from organizational to global. Despite the potential of their influence, nurses are unlikely to participate in the development of nursing or healthcare policy (Anderson, Bruce, Edwards, & Podham, 2016; Grady, 2016; Lewinski & Simmons, 2018). Nurses, individually and in professional nursing organizations, must understand and engage in government policy that affects public health and the nursing profession (American Nurses Association [ANA], 2015).
