Denise Hammel is the president and founder of XcellenceFirst, Inc. (XFI). Denise has enjoyed a career in consulting and her project experience spans the range of tactical to strategic in a variety of healthcare environments. A nurse for over 25 years, Denise began her career in critical care nursing at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. While continuing her nursing practice in critical care, she held an adjunct faculty position at LaSalle University. Denise began her transition into informatics while working in disease management in the late 1990s. She has experience in CPOE, EMR, practice management, eMAR, and clinical documentation implementations. Denise holds a BSN degree from Thomas Jefferson University, an MSN degree from LaSalle University, and a post-master’s certificate in Lean/Six Sigma from Villanova University. Since completing her master’s degree, Denise has obtained certification in nursing informatics and Lean Six Sigma and has become a certified manager of quality and organizational excellence. She has been active on the Delaware Valley HIMSS board serving as board secretary, program chair, and president for multiple terms. Denise is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Society for Quality.
