Heidi Elaine Steiner MSN, RN-BC, NE-BC

Heidi Steiner is currently the Director of Clinical Transformation at the Detroit Medical Center-Huron Valley Sinai Hospital. Additionally, Heidi is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Detroit-Mercy teaching clinical informatics to RN-BSN students. She holds undergraduate degrees in community health education and nursing. She recently earned her master’s degree in nursing informatics from Walden University. Early in her nursing career, her desire for a team and patient-centered approach to care led her into rehabilitation nursing, and she progressed from staff nurse to nurse manager and finally director over a span of 7 years.

Heidi also has experience in home care nursing. Caring for patients across this continuum of care has helped her in the field of informatics. With only a team of staff nurses as super users and the IT department, Heidi led a 300-bed community hospital to full EMR implementation in 2007. She continued to support growth of the EMR post go-live by ensuring the hospital vision was supported as multiple projects were implemented over the span of six years Heidi was in the position. When possible, Heidi facilitated the development of EMR documentation to support the hospital’s chosen nursing framework of relationship-based care. Heidi was instrumental in a successful attestation for meaningful use in 2012. In June of last year, Heidi desired growth and transitioned into her current position.
