This presentation describes the challenges of unintended consequences of healthcare technology. Topics highlighted include patient safety, system design, workload issues, workarounds, technology barriers, sociotechnical impact, documentation burden, and cognitive load. The role of nursing informatics with unintended consequences is emphasized.
