This session will describe the current forces that are driving change in informatics competency expectations for all nurses and informatics nurse specialists. The complex interrelationships between external forces and society need that shape the expectations of health care professionals and competency, standards, accreditation, licensure, and certification will be explored.

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to evaluate the impact that these forces will have on the roles and responsibilities of the informatics nurse today and in the next decade.
